     He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.)¹ He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.)² He gained the rank of Brigadier-General in the Royal Artillery.¹ He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Field Artillery.²

     Colonel Francis Lyon was born in 1834.² He is the son of Thomas Lyon and Eliza Clayton.² He married Flora Annesley, daughter of Hon. Arthur Annesley and Flora Mary Macdonald, on 23 June 1863.³ He died on 26 February 1885, killed.³
     He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Artillery.¹ He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Horse Artillery.²

     Ethel Maud Borwick is the daughter of Joseph Cooksey Borwick and Ellen Elizabeth Oldroyd.¹ She married Lt.-Col. Harry Douglas Palmer on 20 January 1909.¹
     From 20 January 1909, her married name became Palmer.¹

     Lt.-Col. Harry Douglas Palmer married Ethel Maud Borwick, daughter of Joseph Cooksey Borwick and Ellen Elizabeth Oldroyd, on 20 January 1909.¹
