Otokar Navigo T #GH16 GJK

13 may 2017 - Beacon Road, Porthleven. Seen taking a break while on a Private Hire is this unusual, but very useful Otokar. Like the Autosan A1012T`s imported to the UK, British operators seem nervous of foreign built products not already established in the UK, but actually the product is very good. The front axle is from a Mercedes Vario, the rear axle is an MAN part, Cummins engine and Allison automatic gearbox. No parts which should concern a British operator! The narrow body and short length also makes it very useful for touring the narrow and rural Cornish roads.

ADL Dart SLF / ADL Pointer #42942

11 may 2017 - Lender Lane, Mullion. One of 6 sister vehicles bought by First Devon & Cornwall for the 41 route between Falmouth and Camborne, yet now only 2 remain, including this one of course. The other 4 have been transferred to Manchester, where I imagine scenes like this can`t be found!

Mercedes-Benz 814 D / Plaxton Beaver 2 #20

22 february 2017 - Tregidden Hill, nr. Newtown. The Plaxton Beaver has now been outlawed from use on local bus services in the UK, although many have been found new uses. For example, this vehicle now works in the early spring for a Daffodil Farm carrying flower pickers to the fields.

7 march 2014 - Tesco Store, Helston. This bus is a shocking survivor of recent cuts to the bus network in Cornwall. With frequencies on many rural services slashed and just a handful of step-entrance vehicles still in service, I was taken aback by it`s presence.

Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties Palatine I #31828

29 october 2013 - Poldhu Cove, nr. Mullion. This former London vehicle starts the steep ascent from Poldhu Cove toward Cury. This location has been the focus of media attention this week, when a video shot on a mobile phone of a bus passing through thick sea foam caused by the recent storms became `viral` on the internet.

Mercedes-Benz 411 CDI #V11 OTS

13 january 2014 - Gillan Creek, nr. Manaccan, Lizard Peninsular. Formerly the Truronian T3 "Lizard Rambler" service, this deeply rural once-a-day service is now the 323 "East Lizard Link", operated by OTS of Lamanva Cross (nr. Falmouth). This vehicle has been branded for the service. Another of my favourite routes from my time working for Truronian, when I used to drive a narrow-boded Mercedes 711D. Even in that, the mirrors would scrape the hedges in the narrowest sections of this route!

Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties Palatine I #31828

28 october 2013 - Poldhu Rd., Poldhu Cove, nr. Mullion. When fitted with the Volvo TD102KF engine, these buses make climbing the hills of Cornwall easy despite their beginnings in London where such power is not needed.

Dennis Dart / Plaxton Pointer 9.8 #46235

28 october 2013 - Constantine (Nr. Helston), Fore Street. This operator could once boast that all the single deckers in fleet were low floor, but following tender wins in 2011, some step-entrance buses were bought in from other FirstGroup operators. One such example is seen here in the fading autumn light.

Dennis Dart SLF / Marshall Capital #41143

28 october 2013 - Near Helston, Goonhilly Downs. This bus is passing the Goonhilly Satellite Station, a British Telecom facility that was formerly at the forefront of the UKs communications with the rest of the world. Some of the dishes have been dismantled, but still make for a great visit and part of the UKs technological heritage.

Volvo Olympian / Northern Counties Palatine I #31878

23 september 2013 - Helston, Coinagehall Street. Reaching the end of the scenic coastal journey from Penzance is this vehicle, one of many step-entrance double deck vehicles left in the First Devon and Cornwall fleet and from one of the last batches of non-accessible buses built before super low floor vehicles became the standard.
