1. Pink Esthetics Facilitate General Dentistry
Speaker Dr Jack Ji Private Practitioner BDS, MSc, Certificate in Periodontics Diplomate, American Board of Periodontology
Abstract In modern dentistry, patients are seeking for both health and esthetics. Optimal dental esthetics result from a harmonious combination of white and pink esthetics. “We see only what we know.” This lecture highlights how modern periodontics and pinks esthetics enhance patient care in general dentistry, including orthodontic, restorative and implant treatments, as well as prevent complications in daily patient care.
2. Unveiling the radiance: translucent zirconia, its evolution and clinical application
Speaker Prof Amy Chen Clinical Assistant Professor in Restorative Dental Sciences at the Faculty of Dentistry
Abstract Zirconia is widely employed in dental applications due to its aesthetic appeal, chemical stability, and biocompatibility compared to traditional metals. The conventional 3 mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (3Y-TZP) has been favoured for its toughness. However, its inherent opacity has presented challenges in achieving optimal aesthetic results. While layering can improve the optical properties of zirconia-based restorations, the elevated incidence of porcelain fractures is a significant concern for dental practitioners. Recent advancements have led to the development of more translucent zirconia through adjustments in composition and enhancements in sintering techniques, thereby enhancing its aesthetic appeal. The evolution of translucent zirconia has been marked by significant advancements. Its heightened translucency enables the creation of more natural-looking dental restorations, positioning it as a preferred option for patients seeking both durability and aesthetics. This lecture aims to provide an overview of the evolution of translucent zirconia and its clinical implications, shedding light on the transformative impact of this material in modern dentistry.
