L?area, sotto l?aspetto geologico, presenta un'ossatura lapidea prequaternaria costituita esclusivamente da rocce sedimentarie, in parte carbonatica. Spesso tale ossatura è ricoperta da abbondante morenico, o da depositi sciolti di origine peri glaciale. All?interno degli avvallamenti principali vi sono depositi di materiale sciolto (sabbie, ghiaie e trovanti). Sotto l?aspetto agricolo il sito ospita le uniche vigne, di qualche pregio, presenti nell?area lecchese ? comasca.

4.2 Quality and importance

Per la vicinanza alle grandi città l?area riveste un elevato valore turistico, ricreativo, che comporta tuttavia problemi di conservazione di alcune formazioni naturali. Il Sito, inoltre, insiste quasi interamente su un?altura che si affaccia direttamente sulla pianura padana, assumendo quindi un elevato valore paesaggistico. In riferimento alla sua posizione geografica risultano importanti le componenti faunistiche, soprattutto la fauna invertebrata e l?avifauna. Analogamente sono di particolare pregio le formazioni boscose i prati falciati e le sorgenti pietrificanti. Le specie elencate al punto 3.3 sotto D, sono essenze elencate nella lista delle specie protette a livello regionale.
